Homeschool in Florida
Everything Florida homeschool families need in one place โ co-ops, resources, state law basics, and events for your kids.
Florida Homeschool Law โ The Basics
Florida offers multiple homeschool pathways and is considered a homeschool-friendly state with clear annual evaluation requirements.
Notice of Intent
File a notice of intent with your county school district within 30 days of establishing a home education program. Simple one-page form.
HSLDA Florida guide โAnnual Evaluation Required
Must complete an annual evaluation of your child's educational progress using one of several approved methods: portfolio review, standardized test, or evaluation by a licensed teacher.
No Required Subjects
Florida does not mandate specific subjects for home education. The program must be "sequentially progressive" and include reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies โ but how and when is up to the family.
Three Legal Options
Option 1: Home Education Program (file with district). Option 2: Private school umbrella (enrollment in a registered private school). Option 3: Florida Virtual School full-time enrollment.
Parent Qualifications
No teaching license required. The parent must be responsible for the program and provide an annual portfolio or evaluation.
Family Empowerment Scholarship
Step Up For Students administers Florida scholarship programs. Eligible homeschool families may receive up to $8,000+ per student for approved educational expenses.
