Illinois is one of the most homeschool-friendly states in the nation. Requirements are minimal and families have tremendous educational freedom.

Illinois requires zero notification or registration with the state or school district. Homeschools are legally treated as private schools under Illinois law.

Comparable to Public Schools
Must teach branches of education taught in public schools in English. In practice this means core subjects (reading, writing, math, science, social studies) but there's no mandated list.

Illinois does not require any standardized testing or assessment for homeschool students. Completely at family discretion.
No Parent Qualifications
No teaching license, degree, or minimum education level required to homeschool in Illinois. One of the most permissive states in the nation.
